Teaching Assistant level 3
Occupational Profile
Teaching assistants support the class teacher to enhance learners’ progress and development either in groups or individually working within a framework of national legislation regarding safeguarding and other policies and procedures.
They ensure that learners understand their work, know their learning objectives, and display positive learning behaviours, using a range of strategies in order to make progress.
Teaching Assistants may support learners with special educational needs and disabilities and learners with social, emotional, and mental health vulnerabilities.
Teaching Assistants will also work in partnership with teachers and other professionals within the school and education system, as well as with learners’ parents or carers.
Course Overview and Structure
The course is delivered on-site or online by an allocated personal tutor.
Learners will develop their knowledge skills and behaviours through monthly workshops and 20% off-the job-training to support the class teacher and enhance the learning of the pupils.
Additional 1-1 support sessions will also be available as required. All apprentices must spend a minimum of 12 months on-programme.
End Point Assessment consists of
- Professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence,
- Observation with questioning
Entry Requirements
English and Maths at level 2, (can be completed alongside the apprenticeship)
Duration
- 18 months
Progression & Professional Alignment
- With experience, you could take a course to become a higher level teaching assistant (HLTA).
- With further study you could become a fully qualified teacher.
